Hey guys,
Welcome to my first ever blog post! It’s an enthralling moment for me as I have never done this before. My inspiration came from a YouTuber named Ali Abdaal (he should be a familiar figure for all of you folks interested in medicine and technology) and my close friend Aryan, who has also started uploading weekly newsletters. A link will be provided at the end of the blog if you are interested in looking into any one of their uploads. The objective behind writing these blogs is merely to address issues I think are important, give tips to help you in Day-to-day life, and hone my literary prowess. I’m not sure how long this journey will last, but I hope you, the reader, will benefit in some way from these blog posts.
Let me get started by giving an introduction about me. My name is Arjun Chaudhary, and I am a 16-year-old student. I’m quadrilingual, and I’m passionate about science. In the future, I want to become a doctor, specifically, an anesthesiologist. For those of you that don’t know what an anesthesiologist is. Simply think of them as the ‘unacknowledged gods’ of surgery. They check patient’s pre-op (to make sure their bodies can withstand the anesthesia that will be used in surgery), make sure the patient’s vitals are stable during surgery, and followup with patients after surgery to ensure they have a safe and easy recovery. If you are interested in this topic and want to hear what a professional has to say, please refer to the link below.

Next, I will talk about some of my hobbies. Some of the things I like to do for fun include playing sports, reading books, doing research, listening to music, playing video games, exploring the outdoors, and volunteering. I play a ton of sports ranging from badminton to basketball, and soccer. The reason I constantly play sports is to not only remain physically fit but playing sports is a great way to relax! An article published by Harvard Health states, “Exercise reduces levels of the body's stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that are the body's natural painkillers, and mood elevators.” Following, I like to research a topic that I am generally interested in. This could include, researching about the next breakthrough in medical science, or a new planet that has been discovered that has a potential for sustaining life. Reading is also pretty similar to playing sports in the sense that not only does it enhance your vocabulary, but it relaxes your mind. The beautiful thing about reading is that, if you can visualize the words that you are reading on paper, it’s almost as if you are watching a movie. As hobbies are supposed to be things you do to relax, listening to music and exploring the outdoors are simply self-explanatory.
Last but not least, volunteering. I listed volunteering as a hobby I like to do because what’s better than the feeling of giving back to society or helping ease somebody's day? I have volunteered at many small settings, and my roles could vary from helping move things around to attending client concerns at the front desk of a tutoring center, all the way to volunteering in school settings where I would interact with the children to ensure they had a fun and engaging experience after school while waiting for their parents to pick them up. I am currently an article writer and researcher/resource creator for a non-profit organization called Medicine Encompassed. It is a New York-based organization that provides high school students who have an affinity for medicine and science a chance to research and further their interests in medicine. They have made over 1,000,000 impressions internationally, and seek to expand upon medical and STEAM education. Recently, I have also become intrigued by meditation. As some people would call this a banal hobby, I recently took into consideration that there are lots of benefits surrounding meditation. Not only does it help you relax, but some people also claim that it puts you in a state of introspection. By this I mean, if you were to concentrate solely on meditation in that current moment, it may be possible to look within oneself and reflect upon their actions and thoughts.
Following, I will talk to you about some of my achievements. I will start with my old achievements that I thought I should mention. I received honor roll every year since grade 6, won the French award, have a plethora of gold medals in math, and I won the most advanced student in math for two years (grade 7, and 8). Now, I will talk about some achievements that I obtained recently (2019-2021). Starting, I certified in emergency first aid, and CPR also obtaining my bronze cross-certification. It is very beneficial to me not only because I want to go into the medical industry and early exposure is great, but because I obtained the skills to attend to someone who is in distress. Not many people can get their bearings together in a trauma situation, however, this course taught me exactly what to do in those types of incidents. Next, I recently completed a Vitals course from the University of Pennsylvania. I completed this university-level course with an average of 94.5%. Throughout the duration of the course, I was exposed to topics that future health professionals are familiar to. Some topics include; Analyzing pulse/heart rate, blood pressure, heart anatomy and physiology, metabolism, temperature, respiration rate, pain management, reading EKG and ECG monitors, etc. It was a long course, but I decided that I would be proactive and complete it during quarantine. One last achievement that I have been able to achieve is a small business that my friends and I have created. We created a platform in which small businesses locally can advertise their services. There is a seller profile and a client profile. You register in whichever profile suits your needs and can shop or sell services from numerous local small businesses at an affordable price.
Last but not least, I’d like to mention some of my plans/goals along with blog writing. I hope to start and complete a course offered by Duke University on Medical Neurobiology. This course is quite long and potentially intimidating for most people, however. I feel as it wouldn’t be as much of a struggle to me as medicine is something that I am very passionate about. I love learning about new things, specifically around the topic of the human body and how it functions. Wouldn’t you want to learn about how complicated structures in your body work in an intricate relation to one another yet everything fits into place perfectly?
